Digital Design (includes minor editing) — $2 per finished page, $4 for pages with photos or graphics, minimum $100; cover, $40

Deep Edit of First/Early Draft Manuscript — $0.02 per word, minimum $100

Typesetting Manuscript — $1.75 per finished page (double spaced, standard manuscript format); minimum $21
Typesetting from Handwritten Copy —$3.50 (or estimate) per (finished) manuscript page (double spaced, standard manuscript format); $21 minimum

Sherrill has several years’ experience maintaining a mailing database for a dog rescue group. She also has experience with mail-outs and labeling envelopes for this group and other groups. With high organizational skills, she is also capable of making your life easier by managing backlogs of business receipt recording (basic bookkeeping), including writing receipts for charitable organizations, non-profit and not-for-profit organizations. She also has extensive experience designing and editing newsletters & e-mags.

What's Included in Editing?

Spell-Checking adds the human element to the powerful spell-checker feature in most applications.

Publishers prefer “clean” copy, meaning it’s obvious someone has gone over it. Copy editing is basic spelling- and grammar-checking combined with occasional sentence restructuring.

Grammar-Checking won't change a writer's voice, it's ensuring that the sentence structure conveys the intended meaning. Correct grammar does that.

Most publishers prefer to receive manuscripts in the standard 1-inch margin, 12 point, Times Roman, double-spaced format. We will set up your MS in this way unless you specify otherwise.

Self-publishing seems to be the latest trend for writers, but it’s not always easy to design your work to make it palatable to the reader. That’s where we come in. We'll set up your book with headers and footers, start off new chapters with eye-catching (or discreet if you prefer) designs, and we'll include your graphics or photos. (We include basic editing in the design.)

When it's completed, we'll send the PDFs (files) to the printer of your choice.

We have experience designing fiction, autobiographies and biographies, histories, instructional books, inspirational books, poetry, pamphlets, brochures, programs, newsletters, business cards, and more.

If you’re writing non-fiction, this doesn’t mean Sherrill is going to do research for your whole book, it means she’ll try to help you find what you’re looking for. In many cases, she’ll contact the source for you.

This means reading your manuscript and telling you what we think of: (1) the story; (2) the writing; (3) maybe the characters; (4) where it starts putting us to sleep, if it does; (5) where it wakes us up again, if it does. Note: We are neither agents nor publishing editors. We are just The Writer’s Friend. A good friend is honest.

Manuscript Evaluation

Wow. We're nice, aren’t we? We can work from handwritten copy but only if it is legible. Be advised that this service is on the pricey side, so if it’s a long piece of work you want done, it might be cheaper to sign up for a typing course.
