Sherrill Wark

About Us

Grammar was always my favourite and best subject in school, and that love of the English language has stayed with me throughout my life.

I suppose it was only natural, being a lover of the language and all, that I ended up with a career working with it. I was a typesetter for 20 years during which time I typeset such stalwartly fussy publications as the Canadian Library Journal, and a myriad of scientific journals all of which — with a couple of exceptions which shall go unnamed — had editors who were right sticklers for punctuation and proper use of the language.

Not only did I enjoy reading the science papers, but I also viewed each paper as a challenging game of See if You Can Spot An Error The Editor Missed. On rare occasions I could, but more often I was informed in the margins of the returning galley that there were always, always, exceptions to the rule. “Oh, goody.”

I am the editor of the Canadian Authors Association-Ottawa Branch newsletter, Byline; and the former editor of Outlook, the Ottawa Kennel Club newsletter.

I have not lost my love for the nitpickiness of how the English language is supposed to look in print. Some people like to play chess. I like to design publications and edit stuff.

“More of the sometimes funny but always angsty poetry of Sherrill C Wark. In this “The Sequel” to the 1980 “mostly of love and the perils thereof,” Ms Wark repeats some of her earlier poems and adds a few ruth-ridden* new ones.”
