between you & the printer

Kesk8a is an historical novel set in late 17th-century Acadia where my paternal grandmother’s ancestors lived. Told from the point of view of a young Mi’gmaw woman, it’s the story of the deep friendship that developed between the indigenous peoples and the French — the first Europeans — who settled there. It’s a story of friendship; but it’s also a story of ultimate betrayal by the next wave of Europeans to arrive in l’Acadie.

Stand-alone sequel #3 to the Graven Images screenplays takes place in Outer Darkness. It’s the story of an eclectic group of individuals working together, in spite of their differences, to escape from a crumbling world fraught with dangers at every turn. “Don’t miss your curfew!”

When I was researching mites (yes, mites) for this novel-soon-to-be-screenplay, I lucked into finding one of the five specialists in the world of Pyometes — some species of which, if present in sufficient quantities on the human body, will cause almost instantaneous death. Mix a racist mad scientist, a bit of genetic engineering, a high melanin content in the epidermis ... And there you have it: Skin Eater. “Stay out of the tanning salons!”

Graven Images was a finished novel looking for a home with a publisher, but I decided to adapt it into two screenplays: Graven Images I & Graven Images II.  What happens when an angry and lonely young woman messes with supernatural forces beyond her understanding and control? “All Hell breaks loose!”
